The impact of the Beatles on pop music cannot be overstated. In one huge sweep they turned the music industry upsidedown and touched the lives of all who heard them. They arrived on North America's doorstep on February 7, 1964 and thus began their astounding rise to fame as they overtook the music scene of the day. They would go on to define the pop musical agenda for the remainder of the Sixties and subsquently influence almost every genre of music and musician for untold decades to come. Their 'formula' for success would be become to the music world what the Holy Grail was to Christianity.

But on April 10, 1970, Paul McCartney was to announce his departure from the Beatles, signalling the end of what had begun in a small British pub 8 years earlier. Throughout the Seventies, avid music fans continued to hope that the Beatles might join together once more as the group's ex-members each pursued their solo musical careers. None of the Beatles ever did play together again and the world's hopes of any re-uniting of the 'fab-four' were forever dashed when John Lennon was shot to death in New York City on December 8, 1980.
